Summerville, South Carolina –
Sophie E. Hover, 94, a former longtime resident of
Hyde Park,
died on December 26, 2018 at Summerville Medical Center. She moved to South Carolina to be closer to family.
Born in
Garfield, NJ on April 7, 1924, she was the daughter of the late
Conrad and
Rose Gola Wdowiak. She was a 1946 graduate of the former St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing and a member of the school’s Alumni Association.
Sophie was a Registered Nurse in the Pediatrics Department at the former St. Francis Hospital in
Poughkeepsie. She retired in 1979.
A communicant of Regina Coeli Church in Hyde Park, she was also member of the church’s Altar Rosary Society.
On January 31, 1948 in Garfield, NJ, she
married John ‘Jack’ L. Hover. Mr. Hover
predeceased her on August 25, 1995.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter,
Patty Simmons; two brothers,
John and
Joseph Doviak; and two sisters,
Helen Komsa and
Anne Treuer.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, Wednesday January 2nd at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am, Thursday, January 3rd at Regina Coeli Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Fr. Michael Morris will be officiating.
Burial will follow in the family plot in Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
